The second-generation Citroen C4 is now on sale in Australia offering local customers striking five-door French styling, razor-sharp new prices and plenty of choice.

The new range kicks off at just $22,990 (before on-roads) for the automatic model, making the new C4 one of the cheapest small autos in Australia. Customers were forced to spend an extra $6000 in the old range to get a similar package, highlighting the incredible value of the new model.

The range will include three different engines and four unique transmission options.

The entry-level 1.6-litre petrol produces 88kW of power and 160Nm of torque. Teamed with a four-speed automatic, it has a combined cycle fuel consumption of 6.9 litres/100km and a somewhat sluggish 0-100km/h acceleration time of 13.9 seconds. The five-speed manual option is more fuel efficient (6.2 litres/100km) and faster (0-100km/h in 12.5 seconds).

The 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine promises a more lively drive without hurting economy. The 115kW/240Nm unit is teamed with a six-speed EGS (electronic gearbox system) semi-automatic transmission, and returns combined figures of 6.4 litres/100km and a much nippier sprint time of 8.7 seconds.

The 1.6-litre diesel engine generates 82kW of power and 270Nm of torque. Citroen calls it ‘HDi’ when combined with a six-speed manual transmission, and in this form it burns diesel at a rate of 4.6 litres/100km combined. When paired with the six-speed EGS, stop/start technology and regenerative braking, Citroen calls the diesel system ‘e-HDi’, and this more efficient setup sips just 4.2 litres/100km combined, making it one of the most fuel efficient cars in Australia.

Three trim levels will be offered: Attraction, Seduction and Exclusive.

The sole Attraction model will come standard with six airbags, electronic stability control, cruise control with speed limiter, six-speaker stereo with AUX input, electric front windows, manual air conditioning, and an automatic rear windscreen wiper.

The mid-spec Seduction adds fog lights with cornering function, tinted rear and rear-side windows, cruise control with memory settings, Bluetooth connectivity leather steering wheel, automatic handbrake and electric rear windows.

The range topping Exclusive trim level includes Blind Spot Monitoring system; climate control; automatic wipers, lights and rear-view mirror; massaging front seats; customisable instrument colours and polyphonic sounds; ‘guide me home’ headlights; folding door mirrors with LED lights; LED reading lights; footwell lighting; frost alert; rechargeable boot torch; and centre-rear armrest/ski flap.
